Georgian Style Home
Yarra Valley, Victoria
New Build
In 2006 we designed and built a Georgian style family home and garden near the Yarra Valley. We were inspired by many beautiful buildings in London, which were designed during the 18th century. This was our first home as a young couple and while the fittings were not luxurious by today’s standards, they were wonderful to live with at the time. Our goal for this build was to create an ideal balance between our home and garden, which would feel comfortable, traditional and elegant for a long time.
The exterior featured solid clay bricks in Burwood Blue with various colour shades and excellent thermal properties. Inside, we used a traditional colour palette of taupe, red and gold. It resulted in warm and inviting spaces that were great for entertaining and for relaxing with a good book. The linear garden design echoed the formal interiors and featured English box, crabapple and silver birch trees. Our rose garden was a great source of joy and often sent a gentle perfume into the nearby dining rooms.
Adding to our Georgian style over time with complementary colours, framed artwork and period style features was so rewarding. Many years later when we decided to move, it was difficult to say goodbye to this wonderful home.
